Where every child matters

Theme Week Photos

We have had a wonderful theme week this week exploring Equality and Diversity.
We began on Monday by looking at our similarities and differences. We collected information about ourselves into tally charts and then added them to a computer programme called JTE code which made a bar graph for us. We then went on to explore the story Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. David McKee has been our focus author this term and the children really enjoyed designing a bright and colourful costume for Elmer Day.
In Forest School we had an excellent team building session where we had to build a slide for our rafts that we made last week. We have some amazing future engineers in our class!
On Tuesday we looked at where we come from. We found the United Kingdom on a world and European Map and looked where Bridgwater is. The children really enjoyed talking about their families and showing photos and family trees.
On Wednesday we looked at Paganism as part of exploration of different religions. The children worked in groups of 3 to create a segment for the pagan wheel of the year. In the afternoon we looked at the Autumn Equinox and talked about how night and day are equal at the time. The children drew some beautiful day and night pictures.
On Thursday we explored significant Black Britons focussing on Baroness Lawrence. The children used clay to make a sculpture to symbolise friendship.
On Friday we learnt about Notting Hill Carnival and the children designed their own Carnival costume.
We have also continued our work on addition and have been looking at recording number sentences to go with number stories.
We look forward to seeing you all on the 31st October dressed in your best Halloween costumes!
