Night Pirates theme weeks: Ready, Respectful and Safe

Our first three weeks in Year 2 have been all about settling in, making friends and learning how to be ready, respectful and safe. The children have been getting used to new routines and taking pride in looking after our classroom. We have talked about listening to others, using kind words, taking turns and helping everyone feel that they belong in our Year 2 crew.

We have also been exploring climate sustainability and thinking about how we can care for our planet. The children have considered how litter and pollution affect people, plants and animals, and discussed the choices we can make to help. Learning about Greta Thunberg helped us see that even children can use their voices to make a difference. ??

Our pirate theme has sparked lots of curiosity and imagination across the curriculum. We have explored places around the world, learned about a real pirate from history and enjoyed sharing our ideas through stories and poetry. These activities have also helped us practise working together, listening respectfully to different opinions and explaining our thinking.

It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence and beginning to put our school values into practice each day. We are very proud of the positive start they have made to Year 2! ??‍??
