Night Pirates Class have had a fantastic week taking part in our Fantastic Foundations theme week, exploring a range of exciting subjects while developing important learning skills for the future.

Throughout the week, we focused on five key qualities: observation, creativity, curiosity, teamwork and problem solving.

As Explorers, the children investigated microhabitats around our school grounds, looking closely at where minibeasts live and discussing how different environments meet their needs. They also developed their geographical skills by creating maps, using symbols and keys, and learning how to describe locations and directions using compass points.

In our Creators sessions, the children explored the work of famous artists including Henri Matisse and Alma Thomas. They used colour, shape and pattern to create their own collages before applying their creativity to designing improved playgrounds and explaining how their ideas could benefit others.

As Time Travellers, the class became young historians, comparing school life in the past with school life today. They examined historical artefacts, searched for clues about the past and generated thoughtful questions about the lives of people who lived hundreds of years ago.

Our Performers day gave the children opportunities to work together through music, dance and movement. They composed rhythms to accompany a film, learned and performed movement sequences, and collaborated with partners to create their own routines and artwork through clear communication and teamwork.

To finish the week, the children became Inventors, using Bee-Bots to create, test and debug simple programs. They also tackled STEM challenges, planning, building and improving structures while demonstrating resilience and problem-solving skills.

We have been incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, perseverance and positive attitudes shown throughout the week. The children embraced new challenges, worked collaboratively and demonstrated many of the skills that will help them become confident, successful learners. What a fantastic week of learning in Night Pirates Class!
