We have had a wonderful first week back in Paddington Bear Class! Our theme week, The Power of Words, has been a fantastic way to settle back into school after the Christmas break.

✨ Words Have Power! – Monday
On Monday, we were lucky to welcome author Emily Lloyd-Gale, who writes about the adventures of Mighty Maurice. She shared her journey to becoming an author and talked to the children about how their own words and writing can create, inspire, and make a difference. Together, we wrote a class book and created our own Mighty Maurice-inspired character artwork.

✨ Magical Words All Around Us – Tuesday
On Tuesday, we explored how words are everywhere! The children took part in a word hunt around the school, played a ‘silly sentence’ game to create their own sentences and short stories, and made word wands to proudly show off their favourite words.

✨ Words That Make Us Feel – Wednesday
On Wednesday, we focused on words that help us express our feelings. We watched a retelling of Have You Filled a Bucket Today? and matched different words to emotions, thinking about times when we might feel that way. The children then explored using more exciting and descriptive words to talk about their feelings. Together, we created a beautiful word tree for the whole school to enjoy and made compliment chains to share kind and thoughtful words with one another.

✨ Words Tell Stories – Thursday
On Thursday, the children became storytellers! Using story spinners, they created their own imaginative tales. We explored traditional stories by making story maps, character description word clouds, and stick puppets of traditional tale characters.

✨ Word Wizards Celebration Day – Friday
We finished the week with a special celebration of our favourite activities. The children used their puppets to retell The Gingerbread Man and Little Red Riding Hood, created word wizard headbands featuring their favourite words, and ended the week with a cosy reading picnic. We shared favourite books with friends, cuddly toys, and blankets.
