Power of words

Spring A: January 2026

Our whole school theme has been all about ‘The Power of Words’.

On Monday, we welcomed the author Emily Lloyd-Gale, who has written the stories Maurice the Moose 🫎 and The Moose Who Saved Christmas. The children listened carefully as Emily read her stories and asked some interesting questions. They loved learning about the character Maurice the Moose and enjoyed drawing some detailed pictures.

On Tuesday, we shared the story Room on the Broom 🧙🧹 written by our class focus author Julia Donaldson. We had lots of fun mixing magical word potions and creating magic word wands. 🪄

On Wednesday, we explored how words make us feel. The children thought of kind words to say to their friends and had a go at writing these words on leaves to add to our class ‘Kindness Tree’. ☺️🌳

On Thursday, we shared the story The Gingerbread Man and enjoyed joining in with the repetitive rhyme:
“Run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man!”
The children helped to make puppets for a puppet theatre show and were excited to create an adjective word tree to describe all the characters.

On Friday, we celebrated our week of creativity, kindness, and storytelling. The children took part in making word wizard hats and shared our invented ‘Power of Words’ poem from the week.

What a wonderful Words Week! We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
