Words, Words, Words! theme week
This week has been our Words, Words, Words! theme week, all about celebrating the power of words. We have explored this through storytelling, music, poetry, dressing up, role play and writing. We have been focusing much of our learning around the book Ten Word Tiny Tales by Joseph Coelho and Friends. Our tiny tale was about a bear on a snowmobile!
On Wednesday we shared our tiny tale and in PE time, acted out what we thought might happen next to the bear. We looked at the illustrations for clues about what could happen and used our imaginations to invent the next part. We took part in shared reading with another class, sharing books we enjoy with our new friends. We also learnt about the winter solstice and the changing seasons. We carried out experiments to create a snowstorm in a jar and create snowy crystal pictures.
On Thursday we had PE, then music with Mrs Jolliffe. In music we learnt a musical story and thought about how we can tell stories through music. Then we had a special visit from Pete the Poet who brought a magic carpet and lots of costumes! We used our imaginations to go on a magic carpet ride and tell a story. We explored poetry, story telling and drama with Pete and even created a school rap together. Everyone had an excellent time and enjoyed the activities. In the afternoon we learnt a poem and practised performing our poem using different voice levels and actions.
On Friday we further explored our tiny tale and drew pictures of what might happen next, which we then used our phonics to write about. The children imagined that the bear might meet an alien, or go into a castle to meet a king or get lost in a deep space snowstorm!! We acted out our stories using the small world resources. We read lots of stories together and used different voices for different characters, and joined in with making the sound effects! We also discussed World Day of Peace and talked about how we can be peaceful in our class and in our homes. We made beautiful peace doves out of cake cases.
Great imagination Snow Bears! You have all worked so hard this week.
