Reading for pleasure
What a wonderful first full week we have had. This week our theme was 'Reading for pleasure' which aims to encourage children to find joy in reading. In Percy's we focused on the ways we can enjoy books when the words are tricky and difficult to read. We know that children struggle to enjoy books when they find reading difficult, but by encouraging children to find ways to enjoy tricky books, they hold their love for reading, and will be motivated to persevere with their reading.
We designed new covers for our favourite Percy the Park Keeper books, created a synopsis (blurb) for our own story books and completed a scavenger hunt looking for specific items or words within a range of books.
We were also lucky enough to have many of our parents visit our classroom for a chance to explore their children's classroom and meet the staff who work with their children. Thank you to those who joined us, it was lovely to spend time with you all.
